Tip Calculator
To calculate a tip, multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100. A 20% tip on an $84.20 bill is $16.84, for a total of $101.04. Splitting among 3 people, each pays $33.68.

Limits: bills up to $1,000,000, tips 0–300% (honored to 2 decimals), up to 100 people. The tip rounds to the nearest cent (half up); per-person shares round up to the cent so the bill is always covered.

How the split is calculated
This calculator works in exact cents. When a total does not divide evenly, each person's share rounds up to the next cent so the group always covers the bill. The overage is at most one cent per person. The "round the total up" option lifts the total to the next whole dollar and adds the difference to the tip; the effective tip percentage is shown so you know what you actually tipped.
Pre-tax or post-tax?
Convention says tip on the pre-tax subtotal. In practice many people tip on the final total because it is the number in front of them. On a $50 meal with 8% tax, a 20% tip differs by 80 cents between the two methods. Pick one and do not overthink it.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I tip?
In the United States, 15–20% is customary for table service, and 20% is now the common default in most cities. Counter service is discretionary.
Do I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Convention is the pre-tax amount, but many people tip on the total for simplicity. The difference on a typical bill is small; enter whichever amount you prefer.
How does the split handle uneven amounts?
Per-person amounts round up to the next cent so the group always covers the bill. The tiny overage (at most one cent per person) goes to the server.
